Foundation Settles in Smile Lines

Foundation settles in smile lines when too much product sits where the face moves. Hydrate first, use thinner layers, and set only after pressing out creases.

The fix

Save
  1. moisturize around the mouth and let it absorb before applying foundation
  2. use a thin layer of sheer foundation over smile lines instead of full coverage
  3. after a few minutes, smile gently and press out any creases with a damp sponge
  4. set the lines with the smallest amount of finely milled powder on a small brush

If it’s still not right

  • Remove foundation directly inside the deepest line with a cotton swab and leave that line nearly bare.
  • Use coverage around the lines rather than on top of them if the creasing keeps returning.

Prevent it next time

  • Avoid heavy matte foundation around the mouth.
  • Apply powder with a small brush instead of sweeping it across the whole lower face.

Notes

Why this works

Lines are not the problem by themselves. The problem is too much product sitting in a place that folds and moves. Every expression pushes foundation into the same groove, and powder can make that buildup look drier.

Using less product in the moving area looks smoother than trying to cover the line completely. Pressing before setting removes the early buildup so the final layer stays lighter.
