Gel Manicure Looks Lumpy
A gel manicure looks lumpy when polish floods the cuticle, layers are too thick, or the nail surface was not smoothed first. Thin coats give a cleaner finish.

The fix
- lightly buff ridges or leftover product before starting
- wipe the nail clean so dust does not sit under the gel
- apply gel in very thin coats, leaving a tiny gap around the cuticle
- clean any flooded edges before curing
If it’s still not right
- Use fewer strokes if brushing keeps pushing gel into ridges.
- Remove and redo a nail if gel cures onto the skin.
Prevent it next time
- Roll the bottle gently instead of shaking it, which can add bubbles.
- Cure each thin layer fully according to the gel system directions.

Why this works
Gel polish rewards thin layers. Thick gel can look smooth for a moment, then pool near the cuticle or sidewall before it cures. Once cured, those raised spots are locked in.
Cleaning the nail and the edges before curing fixes the problem while the polish can still move. After curing, the only clean correction is usually filing or removal.
