Lip Liner Looks Too Dark
Lip liner looks too dark when the edge is harsh, cool, or not blended into lipstick. Softening the line makes the shape defined but wearable.

The fix
- soften the liner edge with a cotton swab before it sets
- fill the corners and outer lip lightly instead of drawing only one hard outline
- apply lipstick over the liner and press lips together
- use a lip brush to blend the border into the center color
If it’s still not right
- Add a warmer lipstick or gloss over the center to balance a cool liner.
- Use the dark liner only at the outer corners for dimension.
Prevent it next time
- Choose liner one or two shades deeper than your lip color, not much darker.
- Sharpen the pencil but use light pressure.

Why this works
Lip liner looks intentional when it creates shape and shadow. It looks harsh when the edge is the only visible color.
Blending the liner inward creates a gradient, so the darker edge supports the lip shape instead of sitting on top like a separate stripe.
